Either — you choose when you order. ClawBox (Connect) ships running OpenClaw. ClawBox Hermes Edition ships running Hermes Agent by Nous Research. Both are €749 and identical hardware; they are separate products at checkout, so your box arrives already set up with the agent you picked.You are not locked in. Settings → Harness re-makes a box you already own as the other edition — no reflash and no second box. It takes a few minutes, needs an internet connection and the Max plan, and the same button switches back. See Switching editions.
No. ClawBox Hermes Edition does not include or require a ClawBox AI plan. The Pro and Max plans described in Subscriptions apply to ClawBox (Connect).
No. The hardware is yours. You can run ClawBox with your own AI provider key (Claude, GPT, Gemini, OpenRouter) or local models. A ClawBox AI subscription is optional and adds managed AI plus higher support tiers. See Subscriptions.
ClawBox AI by default, plus Claude, GPT, Gemini, and OpenRouter as first-class options — with your own API key, or by signing in with a Claude Pro/Max, ChatGPT Plus/Pro or Google One AI Premium subscription you already pay for. Yes. Memory Shard indexes your notes, your past conversations and any folders you point it at — PDFs, Word and OpenDocument files included — so the assistant can search them. It needs a Pro or Max plan, and you choose whether the index is built in the ClawBox AI cloud or entirely on the box.
Partly. The desktop, the terminal, files, your webapps and a model running on the box all work offline. On the OpenClaw and dual editions, once the box’s own model is primary or fallback, Local-only mode in Settings → Local AI routes every request to the box and switches the cloud providers off; the Hermes edition has no equivalent switch, and you point it at the box’s model in its provider settings instead. Anything that reaches a cloud provider, a messaging channel or an update obviously does not.
Yes — Settings → Voice → Spoken replies, which is off until you turn it on. A box on the Max plan speaks with the ClawBox AI cloud voice; any box can install a voice of its own from Settings → Local AI. See Chat.
ClawBox (Jetson Orin Nano, €749) is a low-power always-on assistant. ClawBox Workstation (DGX Spark, €5,499) is a personal AI supercomputer that runs large models locally. Full comparison on the Workstation page.
Telegram, Discord, WhatsApp, email and the on-device web chat all have guided setup in Settings → Channels. Advanced users can add other OpenClaw channels manually when their installed OpenClaw version and plugins support them. See Messaging Channels.
ClawBox draws ~7–15 W (about €39/year in electricity). ClawBox Workstation peaks around 300 W under heavy load.
